ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS MODERN RENAISSANCE PALETTE | REVIEW

Thursday, 16 June 2016

As soon as this palette came in the mail today, I knew I had to do a post. I took to Twitter immediately, before I'd even opened the thing, because I was SO excited! I've been waiting for this palette for ages - and it has not disappointed. I know a lot of you have too, so I'm here to tell you whether it's worth the hype (and the £41 price tag!).

The palette itself is muted pink in colour, a shade which I would actually love to wear on my lips (random I know, but any recs?!). The material the outside is made from makes it feel very much like the first Naked palette, and I can see it getting dirty over time, with the embossed writing fading, as it does on the Naked palette. However, I'm okay with this, and I'm gonna keep it in its box to avoid this happening. I take palette care VERRRRY seriously!

The only thing I'm disappointed with is inside, it's a shiny black cardboard type affair, which in my opinion cheapens its look and feel. I think for the price tag and largeness of the brand, it could have been a bit more luxurious and durable, but that's my only qualm.

Now, onto the shade range. The shades in this palette are very varied between golds and berry tones. It's really unlike any palette I've ever seen, which is why I'm so drawn to it. It has some perfect base shades (Tempera, Golden Ochre, Buon Fresco), highlight shades (Vermeer, Primavera) and some gorgeous crease shades (Venetian Red, Realgar, Cyprus Umber). The variety between them all means you can create any eye look you want - matte, neutral, simple, bold, you name it, you can probably do it. I can't wait to experiment with the berry shades as well as the oranges! I already have so many eye look ideas!

10 of the shades are matte, and the remaining 4 are shimmery. They're all unscented as well!

The palette comes with this double ended brush. I like this - one end is fluffy for blending, and the other is quite thick, good for applying a lot of colour to your lid. It's not the best brush in the world, and I wouldn't use it over my Zoeva brushes, but it's still good and worth having in your collection.

Now...swatch time! From left to right we have the top row of colours:

Tempera, Golden Ochre, Vermeer, Buon Fresco, Antique Bronze, Love Letter & Cyprus Umber.

Tempera is the lightest shade in the palette but it's still quite pigmented; unfortunately, it kind of blends into my arm...but you can take my word for it!

Then on the bottom row we have:

Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Primavera, Red Ochre, Venetian Red, Warm Taupe & Realgar.

All of the shadows are really creamy...which is a word I've never fully understood when describing eyeshadows. I hear it all the time and I think, how can an eyeshadow be creamy? Well, now I know. They apply so well and are really blendable and pigmented. They're definitely on par with Urban Decay shadows, if not better.

My favourite shades are Vermeer because it's a beautiful shimmery shade, as well as Red Ochre and Realgar because they're just so fun.

Overall, this palette is amazing. I only just got it and I'm already ranting about it. It's really worth every penny and will definitely be a staple in my collection from now on. ABH is also a cruelty free brand so it's a win-win! I AM IN LOVE. You can buy the palette on Beauty Bay, and will get free next day shipping!

Will you be picking up this palette?

  3. The colors are so romantic! I think a bit bold for every day with all the pinks, but definitely lots of earth tones.

    1. Agreed, and the pinks are so pigmented that you can't even mute them down a little but I'm loving it anyway!
