USING SNAPCHAT TO INCREASE BLOG TRAFFIC | ADVICE

Tuesday, 2 February 2016

Hello lovelies and welcome to February! I thought I'd kick this month off with an advice post - January was the month where I found my blogging feet, and decided on the type of style best reflected me, so this month is one where I'll focus on producing content that I'm proud of and that you want to see! If you fancy connecting with me, collaborating, or even asking for a type of post, you can find me constantly on Twitter here

Now, on to the post. It's no secret that most of us bloggers are social media mavens - we're all over Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest...you name it, we've probably tried to turn it into a blogging platform. But one app we're neglecting at the moment is Snapchat. You might think it's for the big time vloggers, or for sending mugshots to your friends, but there's so much more to the app that can be useful for us and our traffic!

Firstly, most of us aren't strangers to Snapchat. I know I've had it for years, and I've usually used it for selfies and videos of me in the club waving my drink around. You know the ones. But recently, celebs and many big time YouTubers have started using it to create mini-vlogs or show what they're doing. A few of my favourite well known Snapchats I watch are:

morellomachine (Chloe Morello)
CarlyRowena
fleurdeforce
heyclairehey (Claire Marshall)
iamamypham (Amy Pham)
inthefrow (Victoria Macgrath)
itsgigihadid (Gigi Hadid)
kylizzlemynizzl (Kylie Jenner)
tanyaburrbear
officialshaym (Shay Mitchell)

Snapchat is a really fun way to connect with people and create a loyal readership. You don't have to have a million followers to do it. It's a bit like how you build friendships and a loyal following through interacting on Twitter. If you have other bloggers on Snapchat, you can get the same thing. My favourite way to use my blogging Snapchat is to film little mini hauls, take make up look selfies, and just vlog about funny bits in my life - it really makes you seem a lot more relatable, and more like a good friend. It gives you a voice beyond the computer screen. It can be a bit daunting at first, but it's actually super fun and I recommend you try it! You can always put your blog link on pictures on your story too as a way of promoting it.

Whilst you may not get as many clicks as you would if you were posting on Twitter, Snapchat is definitely on the rise, and I know I've gotten more traffic from using the app, as well as gaining friends who will read my blog and keep coming back for new posts. To me, that's the important thing - building friendships and readers who actually care about your content.

If you have Snapchat or are making it, you can add me at charliec_p. Comment yours down below!

  2. This is such a good post!! I've never really thought about using snapchat for my blog before! I don't use the one I have now that much, just for random shots of food, and like you videos of me waving a drink around in the pub haha! I might make a new one and start posting makeup selfies and hauls like you do, I think that's a great idea! I also love having Shay Mitchell on snapchat too haha! xx

  3. I haven't used snapchat for my blog actually, half the time when I snapchat I'm just in my pyjamas pulling a silly face or lots of cat photos. I don't actually follow any bloggers on snapchat either, perhaps I should consider it!
