L I P M I S S E S

As a blogger, I think it's fundamental that we, of course, rave about our favourite products, but at the same time, still discuss those that simply don't work for us - and there's nothing wrong with that at all. So, here's my first 'misses' post, and it's all about lips!

Starting off with lipsticks, I purchased both of these on a whim.

The first Lola lipstick in the shade 'Dream Like' was reduced to something ridiculous like a couple of quid in Marks and Spencers, so clearly, I had to pick it up - it would be rude not to. However, this product just doesn't do it for me - as you can see, it's got quite a metallic sheen to it, and I absolutely hate lip colours like that. I wouldn't call a product a 'miss' just because I don't like the colour though, obviously, as that's all down to personal preference. I also hate the formula of the lipstick, as I find it's not very pigmented...but is still quite thick? It's quite an odd experience. But on the plus side, I really like the packaging.

The other is from Primark, and I talked about it in my recent Primark Haul. This is supposed to be matte, and it is, but it just doesn't work for me at all and applies really patchily, which is a shame as it's a beautiful colour, and super affordable!

These four products are all from the drugstore, and are a range of different styles.
Firstly, the Sleek 'Matte Me' in the shade 'Rioja Red' really caught my eye in store, and it's almost perfect - it's highly pigmented and applies really well. However, it falls into the matte trap - it's super drying on the lips!!

The Bourjois 3D Effect lipgloss is a beautiful coral/orange shade called 'Corail Artistic', which is what caught my eye, but it doesn't make my lips look as luscious as promised, and it's really gloopy and sticky, which I was surprised about coming from Bourjois.

I usually really like the Rimmel Apocalips formula (my favourite is in the shade 'Stellar') but this one ('Celestial' - digging the shade names)just didn't work for me. Maybe I got a dud product, but it just applied really oddly and didn't settle on my lips. It felt super strange, and was really different to the ones I'd tried before.

Finally...this Max Factor Lipfinity in the shade 09 was a freebie, I think - you know how if you spend a certain amount in Boots sometimes, Max Factor will give you a free gift? Anyway, I really hate this, which is quite a statement coming from me, as I always try to give makeup the benefit of the doubt. It's so weird. It looks like a felt tip and feels like one too - maybe this works for some women, but I can't stand feeling like I'm literally colouring in my lips. It's so thin and wet. Ick! But - it does have a really good colour pay off and super long lasting power, so if you can put aside the sheer oddness of it, it could be a hit for you.

I've only got one high end product that I consider a miss - I don't try many high end products without going into them fully read up on how they work, because I'm a student...I don't have the money to be throwing it away on all sorts of pricey makeup just to give them a go (as much as I wish I did). This is a travel sized chubby stick in the shade 'Super Strawberry', and it looks like a really nice colour. It does apply nicely and gives the lips a nice sheen, but the trouble is...it's not very pigmented. At all. Which is okay, but if you wanted a simple 'your lips but better' product, you could pick one up at the drugstore for much cheaper.

That's all the lip misses I've encountered so far! What are yours?

  1. I'm lucky in the fact I haven't come across many Lip Misses, but I would definitely say Rimmel 113 is one, it just doesn't sit on my lips right at all and leaves them looking horribly chapped, also I feel your pain with the Lip stains they don't work for me either, they're really strange to apply, really like this series, I'll look forward to the rest! x
